Flatbed
AI Scan Info
At WGS we use the finest flatbed scanner software available: Silverfast AI. In it's most recent version, a new level of quality is assured. Suitable for giclées and other pigmented prints, it allows for exceptionally high levels of sharpness and color accuracy. Color range is more dynamic than the usual flatbed scans, without the glare and muddy reproductions which may accompany them.
Note to Artists:
All work brought to WGS is scanned as soon
as possible, so that the original work is returned to you quickly, while
being handled with extreme care. All personnel at WGS are photographers
/ artists, not just technicians; we share an in-depth understanding of
tonality, color fidelity and media characteristics.
A Dirty word
Prints, paintings and all other forms of
art, improperly stored or handled, may have extreme amounts of imperfections
on the surface. Following Industry Standard Guidelines, we "spot"
our scans to eliminate imperfections. Severe imperfections may exceed
our responsibilities; you may be asked to pay for various types of retouching
to correct these problems.
How big?
The optimal resolution for the printers
at WGS is 360 dpi (dots per inch). If original art work is scanned at
360 dpi, then the final print (if it is the same size as the original),
will print at this optimal resolution. Slight size increases, which may
bring the output resolution down to 300 dpi, are quite acceptable.
If you are planning to make final prints
which are much larger than the original you will need to increase the
resolution of the scan; request 720 dpi (costing more). If you are
planning to make final prints which are much smaller than the original
you may wish to decrease the resolution of the scan; request 180 dpi (costing
less).
In addition to scanning, we can print your file using archival processes,
as well as image modification, retouching and special effects.
No charge for archiving your files.
